The North River
railway of Bob Van Cleef represents a typical turn-of-the century
railroad in the mid-west with no single company represented. This layout features hand-laid rail,
advanced electronic control and while the table is only 35 years old,
some of the equipment goes back to 1945. Equipment includes a blend of kit,
scratch and freelance construction.

Look carefully. There was a box car back in the 1860s
that doubled as an oil tank car.
That belly is a steel compartment to carry oil in a time when
oil was commonly shipped in barrels.
Actually, this is a track cleaning car based on the Centerline
track cleaning car. The rollers
are concealed behind the oil tank between trucks. Yes, there was such a car.
